Hearing test

To assess your hearing, it is strongly recommended that you consult a hearing care professional: only they will be able to identify the nature and cause of your hearing problems. This assessment involves a series of examinations and tests to evaluate your ability to detect sounds and speech.

Tonal audiometry

Tonal audiometry is used to measure your hearing threshold. This test determines the sound level at which you begin to perceive sounds at different frequencies (low, medium, high).

Wearing headphones, you will listen to sounds of different frequencies and intensities. Each time you hear a sound, you must signal this to the healthcare professional.

The minimum intensity at which you hear each sound is noted. The result is represented as a curve on the audiogram.

Speech audiometry

Speech audiometry measures your understanding of speech.

You will be asked to repeat words or phrases to assess your ability to understand speech. This test may be performed in a quiet environment and then in a noisy environment to assess your understanding in everyday situations.

The cost of a hearing test varies depending on the professional. For example, an ENT specialist who is not registered with the national health service charges their own rates, which may include fees that are not reimbursed by Social Security, which can be very expensive. In the event of hearing loss requiring the use of a hearing aid, only an ENT doctor can issue the prescription required to ensure that your equipment is reimbursed, or a general practitioner who has undergone professional development training in medical otology.

At Audition Masséna, your hearing assessment is carried out in full by a hearing aid specialist, completely free of charge and with no obligation, so that you can take care of your hearing with complete peace of mind.
