Degrees of hearing loss and their symptoms

Degree of loss
Decibel level
Symptoms
Normal hearing
Between 0 and -20 dB
Pas de difficulté en particulier
Light loss
Between -21 dB and -40 dB
Difficulty hearing soft voices or following a conversation in noisy environments
Average loss
Between -41 dB and -70 dB
Normal voices become difficult to understand. Need to increase the volume of the television, frequent misunderstandings
Severe loss
Between -71 dB and -90 dB
Only loud voices and powerful sounds are perceived Verbal communication is very difficult without a hearing aid. Lip reading is often necessary
Deep loss
Between -91 dB and -120 dB
Only certain loud noises are heard, unable to communicate without hearing correction
Cophosis
-120 dB and more
No sound is heard
